I'm not really into horses, but I tried this one and I have absolutely no complaints. The first thing that stood out was the music, which was written by Brian Adams. His music matched the film and images perfectly. The first song was the best known (Here I Am), but the other songs were also very good.

Visually, this was also a very nice film. The opening scene in the grand canyon was very impressive and the scenes in the water were also very realistic.

This time the animals don't talk to each other (there is a voice over now and then), but you still sympathize with the horses. The story was also good and the playing time was good.

Again a very mature animation film that appeals to young and old, highly recommended.

Still impressive.

I remember well. I was 9 years old when I saw Spirit with the mommy and the daddy in the cinema. When I left the room afterwards, the hairs on my arms were still straight. I was completely blown away; through the music, through the images, through the feeling...

We are now 10 years later (how time flies so fast) and the film still makes the same impression. I didn't really know anything about the story anymore and that was a good thing.

The opening scene - I still remembered it - immediately makes an impression. It's so bombastic and free, a wonderful feeling.

The story quickly takes a more serious turn with the "bad guys". The training part that follows is the weakest part of the film.

What comes next is just better. The childlike goes away, making it more intense.

The ending is of course a bit corny, but come on, let's just add that.

It's a good thing that relatively little dialogue is used. The somewhat irritating voice of Matt Damon could also have been omitted, because Spirit's feelings are clear enough without a voice.

What also strikes me time and again with movies like this is that (in my opinion) mediocre performers like Bryan Adams rise above themselves. I even have the CD with the soundtrack at home. But as good as Bryan Adams' soundtrack may be, Hans Zimmer's score just barely beats him.

One of my favorites in the animation genre.

With slightly less inspiring songs by Bryan Adam, this moving, exciting and at times breathtakingly beautiful adventure film would have been a masterpiece. Although Matt Damon tells the story of the wild mustang Spirit, the horses in Dreamworks' response to Bambi communicate only through facial expressions and whinnying. The story concerns a mustang who leads a herd of horses and is forced to sacrifice himself by being captured by a group of American soldiers led by The Colonel [James Cromwell] who want to clear the way to the west for the construction of a railway. Though attempts to tame this stallion fail, Spirit gradually comes to realize that he can only escape if he dares to trust another human being, the kidnapped Little Creek [Daniel Studi]. Children will enjoy Spirit's quirkiness, refusal to conform and the brilliant action sequences, while adults will be pleasantly surprised by the layering of the story. And then there is also the beautiful score by Hans Zimmer.
