Disney Classic #51

After a few slips, Disney comes out a lot better with Meet the Robinsons. The story does not have too many main characters and all are sufficiently developed. Lewis and his time in the orphanage in particular are convincing. I can't appreciate all the characters of the Robinsons, but fortunately there are no really annoying people among them.

Now films about time travel are often not the most balanced and Meet the Robinsons unfortunately also belongs in that list. The link between present and past is sometimes messy and the future also looks a bit kitschy. I should have kept the dino out too. Fortunately, it is visually okay, although the backgrounds and gardens are a bit faded. A step in the right direction, but with such a script more could have been achieved.

3.5*

As far as I'm concerned, Meet The Robinsons, along with Chicken Little and Winnie The Pooh, is a shot at Disney's worst animated film.

The film is very loosely based on the book “A Day With Wilbur Robinson” by writer William Joyce. During the production of Meet The Robinsons, Disney took over the studio Pixar. These were the market leader in computer animation. John Lasseter became the new head of Disney and immediately got involved in the production of this film. As a result, nearly 60% of the original film was cut and redone.

The result is anything but good. The script is messy, the animation is poor and the characters are nowhere to be seen. The humor doesn't work either. Meet The Robinsons is nothing like a Disney film that fits in with the previous 46 animated films. All in all, a disappointing animation film, which did not do too well at the box office.
