The story of an illusionist who travels through the 1960s, the decade of television and rock 'n roll. He performs in Paris and London and meets a Scot who invites him to a place in Iona, Scotland. At a gig at a bar, he meets a girl who decides to join him on his journey, thinking he is a great magician.

For me, this movie was like a dream come true. Loved Tati's Hulot films for years, and kept wondering where this somewhat melancholy, very original style of humor would be followed. And then there's a movie that just breathes Tati.

Very nice atmospheric film about a craftsman who is less and less able to find his way in an ever-changing technological society. Not only he, but also his fellow artists are having a hard time. A pretty depressing animated film in that respect. The girl is pretty much the bright spot in his life, but I couldn't find the chemistry between them. I also couldn't find any real reason why they hung out together. She who also wanted to escape her miserable life, but I thought it was a little too under-developed.
The film also collapses halfway through although the first 40 minutes were very strong. The lack of words didn't bother me at all. Strong animations of picturesque Scottish villages and highlands, but also the cities looked attractive. Not as strong for me as Les Triplettes de Belleville (2003), but all in all a must, especially because the ending again makes amends.
