The druid Panoramix is already a day older and it shows when he falls while looking for a mistletoe in the forest. To ensure the future of the village of the Gauls, he thinks of looking for a young talented druid. Together with Asterix and Obelix, he travels into the Gallic world in search of the right person to whom he can pass on the secret of his magic potion.

The adventures of Asterix and Obelix in a beautiful, but rather tame animation. The advantage is that it effectively tells a story, and we don't get a movie for the fans with an abundance of references and characters. However, the story remains a bit thin; after all, there's a difference between a comic book and an hour-and-a-half animated film. Still, the end result isn't bad, and I enjoyed it. Only to quickly fade from memory, I fear.

The Asterix series' combination of slapstick and satire is perfectly captured in this lively animated film, in which the druid Getafix [Bernard Alane] decides, after an innocent incident, that it's time to appoint his successor. This also means he'll pass on the secret recipe for the magic potion with which the Gauls still hold out against the Romans. Young Pectine [Lévanah Solomon] would be a perfect choice... but is rejected because she's a girl. And so, Getafix, Astérix [Christian Clavier], and Obelix [Guillaume Briat] embark on an extensive search. One of the candidates is Sulfurix [Daniel Mesguich], an old rival of Getafix who will do anything to discover the secret of the magic potion. Solid animation, a fast pace, and excellent voice acting make this one of the best films in the often rather mediocre Asterix series.
