In 1910, the wealthy British newspaper magnate Lord Rawnsley organizes a flying race between London and Paris. The participants in the race come from all over the world. Of course everyone tries to win in their own way, fair or not. Meanwhile, English contestant Richard Mays and American Orvil Newton also fight for the affections of Patricia, Lord Rawnsley's beautiful daughter.

A crazy film with a very long title and a very long running time. A variation on The Great Race, but
then with primitive airplanes, motorized, of course, but I had to automatically
the pioneers of aviation, the Wright brothers, think. The long playing time takes its toll
in the long run, yes, a little, especially because not all the jokes were successful. But
all in all pleasant viewing entertainment.

In this entertaining, typically 1960s adventure/comedy film (the ridiculously long film title is already laughable, and so is the Dutch film title), which aired on television on the television channel "NPO 1", an air race (organized by the wealthy British newspaper magnate Lord Rawnsley) from London to Paris must prove that the English control the airspace.
An international group, consisting of Englishman Richard Mays (James Fox), American Orvil Newton (Stuart Whitman), German eyeglass-wearing Colonel Manfred von Holstein (Gert Fröbe), Italian Count Emilio Ponticelli (Alberto Sordi), Frenchman Pierre Dubois (Jean-Pierre Cassel), and Japanese officer Yamamoto (Yujiro Ishihara), embarks on a quest for outrageous creations. The story takes place just before World War I, so the flying contraptions are primitive and there's plenty of intrigue. The story features stunning stunts, hilarious moments, and romance (thanks to Sarah Miles playing Patricia Rawnsley, the beautiful daughter of Lord Rawnsley).
The film is over half a century old, but still offers plenty of entertainment. The aerial scenes were spectacular back then, but now feel dated. Visually, everything (sets, costumes, locations, and the flying contraptions) looks beautiful. All in all, this old-fashioned adventure/comedy film is enjoyable to watch (it runs quite long at approximately 135 minutes), but because the script ultimately lacks a few jokes and is a bit tedious, it falls flat on the mediocre side.
PS the famous English comedian Benny Hill, also has a role in the story as "Fire Chief Perkins".

A well-known film from the 1960s about a flight competition from London to Paris in the era of the earliest aviation pioneers, using crudely constructed flying machines. They often played on TV back in the day. I have fond memories of this from my childhood, but unfortunately, I have to downgrade my rating. The direction still looks good, with grandly staged scenes and a soundtrack with much fanfare from Ron Goodwin. I found the humor rather dated, of the "putting laxative in someone's drink" variety... With such simple humor, few people are drawn in anymore, but I can still appreciate the festive and cheerful atmosphere that permeates the film. Of all the caricatures running around, I still prefer those of Terry-Thomas and Gerd Fröbe... Two phenomena that are missed.
