Spoiled spaniel Lady's life takes a different turn when her owners have a baby. When she ends up on the street due to circumstances, she creates a bond with the vagrant dog Vagebond. Watched this movie once and it was nicely made, but they made the movie a lot longer. There are now a lot more scenes with the dog catcher, but I didn't really think it was an added value. The spaghetti scene was of course successful.
A nice family film, but for me it could have been a bit shorter.

Why make a live-action version of one of the most beloved Disney classics when you know that real dogs can never match the personality of their animated predecessors? Lady [Tessa Thompson] grows up in a loving family but the arrival of a baby and the jealousy of two Siamese cats disrupt her idyllic life. She finds support in stray dog Tramp [Justin Theroux] and… well, the story is well known, right? Doesn't come close to the magic of the original, despite a good voice cast and excellent work from animal trainers Raymond W. Beal, Katelyn O'Rourke and Chelsy Ruecker. It goes without saying that the changes to the original story (including longer running time) aren't improvements, though the diversity of human roles is refreshing.

Would never choose this one to watch but was a movie I watched with family one night. And although not convinced in the beginning, I have to admit that I did enjoy it in the end. You have to get used to the computer animation on lifelike dogs. But is Disney at its best, humanizing animals and responding to the emotions and compassion of the viewer. And of course with typical atmospheric images. The domestic life, the scary asylum, life on the street and of course the romantic scene with the candlelit dinner with spaghetti... Think the film adaptation is successful, but it will not be for everyone. You have to be into the corny Disney genre. 3.5*
