The Universal Soldier series never went down as high-quality action entertainment, but often provided infectious entertainment to a certain extent. However, nothing could prepare me for the unprecedentedly boring course of the original sequel to the explosive predecessor. It's truly unbelievable how lifeless this science fiction film is, which is only saved from a low rating thanks to the efforts of the actors. Director Jeff Woolnough seems to have no idea what this series stands for and delivers an inappropriately long run-up, which is followed by amateurishly shot action scenes. The cinematography looks unkempt and neglected, which really tests your patience as a viewer (nothing between the images attracts any attention). If I didn't recognize the names of the characters, I might even have thought that this movie was completely standalone and not part of the series. It's nice that there were sequels later that did not follow the line of this whole, otherwise the entire event would have quickly gone down as catastrophically boring entertainment.
