An amusing ransom kidnapping with a criminal who thinks he's smart, but to say this was so brilliantly devised, I didn't think so either. Kevin Bacon is generally good in such roles. Charming when possible, tough when necessary.

The plot is fairly standard and clichéd, but in general a nice sight on a mindless evening. The opening scene referring to past victims wasn't wrong at all. Unfortunately, at the end - scenes on the highway - the pendulum swings a bit.

Dakota Fanning continues to be a joy to see popping up in a movie here and there, especially as a little girl. Plot poorly thought out on the other hand. A kidnap out of revenge, OK, I could still follow, but what about the 5 previous ones that people were so fond of referring to? ...

So far the only film adaptation of a Greg Iles book, and unfortunately not the best. It must be said that it is not one of his better books either. He himself wrote the script (and not without merit). The film starts exciting and things are built up skillfully, but in the final things go downhill and we suddenly find ourselves in a misplaced action film. At that point the plot becomes very unbelievable and the events move too fast and messy. Kevin Bacon, however, does well as the main villain and Charlize Theron (here still fresh and fruity in the start-up phase of her career) counteracts well.

Gosh yes.

Weekday thriller. Seen during a flight and for that this is fine. Very fast, with a high tempo and a funny moment here and there. It's not all to be taken seriously. It's not written well enough for that. The genius kidnapping plan is not that genius at all and clichés are not shunned either. Fortunately, that doesn't stop a smooth but meaningless snack.

2.5
