The Odd Angry Shot plot
"In Vietnam, the name of the game is survival."
Just after his 21st birthday, Bill goes to fight in Vietnam as a member of the Australian Armed Forces. He is in the Special Air Services, an elite professional unit that looks down on the 'Nashos', the conscripted soldiers. Bill's best friend is the jovial older Harry, an endearing cynic. The rest of 'the gang' are Rogers, Dawson, Scott and later Bung, all young men who truly believe they are fighting for their homeland. Daily life in the camp consists of rain, beer, cards and bad food, interrupted only by the sporadic excitement of terror during the jungle patrols. However, their luck begins to decline as their 'tour' progresses after a series of skirmishes with the enemy. As the number of casualties rises in his own ranks, Bill counts down the days until he can return home.
