A worthy successor to part 1, the action is slightly more intense where the story has become secondary. You can't have it all, let's just say.

Despite a truly embarrassing speech by Morpheus, a ridiculous dance and sex scene, and corniness of Star Wars-like proportions with that Council in Zion, this sequel to The Matrix has turned out to be a pretty decent popcorn movie. It lacks the class and style of the first installment—the dialogue is cringe-inducingly poorly written on multiple occasions and the mediocre acting doesn't make things much better; the camerawork isn't always great either, and the CGI sometimes misses the mark considerably—but come on: I’m still drawn to a never-ending action scene like that on the highway. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the highlight of the film and one of the most spectacular action sequences of all time (although it pales in comparison to the final half-hour of the first Matrix). The fight in the chateau also deserves praise for two or three truly beautiful shots. And that is precisely where the downside of this sequel lies: the action scenes are beautiful, but, unlike in the first installment, they are not accompanied by a truly interesting story, and where an attempt is made (at the end, for example), the Wachowskis unfortunately soon descend into a heap of entertaining but meaningless drivel. A decent sequel – certainly if you simply skip the first hour for convenience.

2.5*

Despite the ridiculous scenes in Zion at the beginning of the film that slow down the pace, The Matrix Reloaded still stands tall as a movie. The action is of such an incredibly high standard that you can't help but enjoy the film. Partly thanks to a dose of sentiment from playing the game (Enter the Matrix), this film also contains a number of classic scenes, such as the highway sequence.

The epic fight between Neo and Mr. Smith in the courtyard is also captured with finger-licking beauty. Rarely have I seen such beautiful choreography come from Hollywood.

My rating here also remains the same, 3.5*
