America, fuck yeah!

Top notch underwear fun thanks to great voice acting, catchy songs and the necessary brilliant finds (the pull-out shelf of that car, for example, but also the legendary dick speech). The clever thing about Stone and Parker is that they never take sides and that everyone is really taken for a ride. The movements of the dolls are intentionally bad but the faces are very good. That face of Gary when he first sees Lisa, precious.

Most beautiful scene: Hans Blix of the toothless UN who visits Kim Jong for a weapons inspection, then threatens that the UN will get very angry and send a letter saying that they are very angry. Satire at its best.

I noticed that in the version I was watching now, the pee and shit sex had been removed from the bed scene. While that part was also worth screaming. Blood and vomit, in addition to countless sex jokes, were no problem for the censor. Suddenly a lot more is possible with dolls.

“Matt Damon!”

Nicely made film by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Team America: World Police must have taken a lot of time and work, and the result is an entertaining film with some funny moments. Sometimes it is painfully unfunny, but luckily the joke density is so high that there is soon another successful joke in between. And luckily the playing time of one and a half hours is also just right, so you hardly have time to get bored.

Revised after years, and still stands.

It wasn't exactly politically correct in 2004, of course, and the distance to 'woke' has only grown. Terrorists wear turbans and beards, talk unintelligibly and come from Derka Derkastan, Koreans pronounce the 'l' as an 'r', homophobic jokes...

Only: it's a parody. Team America measures up to all the clichés and conventions, from the hero with a trauma who has to overcome himself to 'a montage', from Michael Bay explosions to musicals. And that includes the simple image that Americans (or: the members of Team America) have of foreign countries. A sense of sarcasm is required, but I had a good laugh about it.

In addition, it is clear that the makers have had a lot of fun trying out what you can do with dolls and how silly that comes across: close combat, sex, doll bodies floating in the water, cats as tigers. And, of course, giving a swipe at Hollywood actors.

All in all, this is a film that lends itself particularly well to quoting and paraphrasing, just like Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Film, 1975) - MovieMeter.nl or The Big Lebowski (Film, 1998) - MovieMeter.nl.

Just a little bit more than I miss you"!
