Typical 80s/90s film with a flashy Hauer in a futuristic and rainy London. Take a little Blade Runner, a little Alien, a little Dirty Harry and you have a nice SF film with just enough perspective so that it doesn't stand out and remains fun popcorn entertainment.

Here and there the film feels rather outdated, but Hauer remains fun and carries the film in a pleasant way. Kim Cattrall was also surprisingly convincing in a small supporting role.

Atmospheric and vintage and especially because of this:

Above average

Hmm.

Quite a clumsy film that is indeed a typical example of an action film from the 80s and 90s. The clumsy shooting, the clumsy one-liners and tension that is almost always destroyed. This film contains all those elements.

As expected, Hauer is not doing very well. The makeup of his character is downright stupid and his motives for his actions appear to make no sense. But somehow it makes the film a bit more interesting. I can't say much about the rest. Invisible.

Visually the film is quite ugly. The quality is very poor, it actually looks like a montage that finally went through the washing machine. Such was the look of the film. I'm pretty sure not every movie has such ugly quality.

The rest of it all looks old. Most of the action is off-screen, and the brutal aftermath of the murders is a missed opportunity. Then show at least one of the murders, but that will probably depend on budgetary limitations.

Not a very good film, but one that is still quite entertaining. Due to the clumsy nature of the film, it is not exactly boring, but it is definitely not high-quality cinema.

A kind of ultimate B-movie with the gothic look, music and grossness of The terminator plus the monster from Alien. Yet the film continues to hold attention thanks to Rutger Hauer and thanks to Neil Duncan, who does not let Hauer play him into a corner and is certainly quite funny at the end. I have never seen Sex and the City, so I only now discovered that Kim Cattrall had a decent career after this; Personally, I'm more surprised to find Pete Postlethwaite here (in a role that probably wouldn't have tested him to his limits). Junk, but entertaining junk. It is incomprehensible that this film is from the same director as The riddle of the sands / Shifting sands. And what does that title mean? (The last explosion that had to be timed right?)
