Cledus is a two truck driver and Bandit drives a fast car with him to clear the way. The two accept a bet with Big and Little Enos to pick up a truckload of beer from Texas and return within a certain amount of time. Getting the load is still the simple job, but then Bandit picks up Carrie, sending Sheriff Buford T. Justice after him.

Surprisingly fun.
Didn't really expect anything from it, but Reynolds died not too long ago and Netflix came up with this name. Still a classic, but had never seen the film. Ideal for getting acquainted.
What struck me most was the pace. Seventies cinema dares to be seriously slow, plot and characters that are worked out to tediousness ... none of that here. It starts with action, then more action, more action to finally end with the loudest action. Just a pure genre film that doesn't get distracted by useless drama or character development.
There is then a small romance, which is reeled really smoothly and then continue with the car spectacle. The film is a bit too "yeeha USA!" for me, but that's just a minor problem. On the other hand, there is some silly but funny humor in the form of the sheriff. Man, I could actually taste this. Pure genre entertainment.

To my shame I had never seen Burt Reynolds in this rather iconic role, you can also clearly see where series such as Dukes of Hazard. Knight Rider and even A-team partly got their inspiration from. Burt Reynolds also plays his role in a very nice and convincing way and knows how to portray the character in a sarcastic way.
Sally Field is also a nice co-star, although she was very easily entered the plot. 
Jerry Reed as his good friend also plays a nice role and of course Jackie Gleason as the sheriff who is very reminiscent of the sheriff in Dukes of Hazard.
In any case, find it very entertaining and a fun zeitgeist, the stunts are also nicely filmed! The story is as simple as it gets and the police aren't too bright either, but it's just about what you can expect from this. Also a nice soundtrack by the way!

Look this was entertainment ... f**k the police and drive all those police cars to the ground ... it must have been really no fun to have been a police officer in these years! Burt Reynolds was allowed to rent it from the video store as a 12-year-old and became a big hero for us VHS kids!
