Quite fun.

A mix of crime and drama, but enhanced with some subtle but drastic sci-fi elements. This gives this film a completely different vibe than you would initially expect, something I can always appreciate.

Just don't go into it hoping to see a real sci-fi spectacle, the references to Iron Man and Chronicle don't really do this Sleight any favors. Although I must say that Chronicle comes closer again. Yet it is mainly its own thing.

Visually quite neat, the acting is also fine and the ending manages to find the right tone, and also knows how to stop at just the right moment. In my opinion, Dillard has sufficient potential, I'm curious to see what he can bring with his new film. In any case, a nice debut. Probably a bit too low key for most, but I thought it was pretty cool.

3.5*

Sleight

Realistic but also imaginative film about a boy who gets into more and more trouble due to circumstances. And tries to get out of it through special powers and a lot of imagination. The acting from Latimore (and also Gabriel) is strong, but it is a shame that so little is done with the interesting premise. The realistic part of the story is quite standard, and the combination with the fantasy element never runs smoothly.

not bad, Jacob Latimore playing well.

Story is thin, could have been a lot more.

For example, I would have liked to see more of the tricks with magnetism.

and then the abrupt ending that I couldn't make sense of.

It's a shame that an otherwise nice film should end like this
