Good film in which a lawyer defends a drug dealer who has shot an officer in self-defense. Some great action sequences with excellent use of locations and good, old-fashioned stunt work. The rough New York of the 1980s also comes across well here. Here and there it could have been worked out a bit better and, although entertaining, the last scene with the plane is a bit out of place.

Mediocre film with an unbalanced mix of courtroom film, buddy movie and action. The bad guys are few and the sidesteps to lawyer Roland's uninteresting love life only add irritation. The few flashy action scenes make it bearable, but it remains an unremarkable work. The authors did not know which title to choose: I used to often see Blue Jean Cop, now it's Shakedown apparently...

Quite a mess, actually, a film that borrows from all kinds of genres and serves only a small portion of each course in the menu. On the one hand the griminess and filth of sex and drugs in the big city, on the other hand court drama, on the other hand standard cop movie with some action but also a few Bond-like stunts. And then another revived romance. The whole thing is very implausible and there are a number of moments where things happen quite by chance: for example, we see Elliott suddenly start the hunt for a killer who only had to pretend that his nose was bleeding but ostentatiously flees and only does so after apparently in a whore tent visibly the power goes out. Or Weller will sneak into the night and enter a police building quite easily to snatch evidence. He is caught by corrupt cops and of course Elliot is there just in time.

And in addition, the cliché meter is quite over. It already starts with a typical one from the 80s: someone who mixes almost the entire fridge in the blender and works it in with a few clocks. Elliott himself makes it even more colorful by waking up in the cinema. It is not too bad that he is not heavy on drinking and cigarettes. And what kind of weapon does he have, well why do I ask, of course a Magnum .45.

The camera work is quite nice with nice shots here and there. But all in all, it is mainly a waste of talent that deserved better.
