Slightly less.

The problem that these kinds of films have is that after the first part it is very difficult to maintain the concept. You may be looking at a "Maze Runner", but not much Maze is involved. A lot of running by the way, but that is a lot less unique.

One pulls the story open, but then it is noticeable that these series start to resemble each other remarkably. The "I Am Legend" aspect of this film is still surprising, although it doesn't last very long. After that it gets a lot less.

Visually it looks nice, also a bit darker than similar series. Especially those "zombies" stuck in the tunnel looked cool. But then it soon becomes apparent that you are looking at a young adult thing again, so that everything is solved a bit too easily (and well-behaved).

In any case, an enormous amount of last minute escapes that come completely out of nowhere. But hey, it's not that bad for a young adult film. If they can still maintain this level in the third part, they have done a pretty good job. Then the young adults are ready for the big Hollywood blockbusters, as the American film eating factory likes to see it.

Since I thought the first part was fine, I didn't like this second part so much.

It all started quite nicely and I was captivated for the first three quarters of an hour. Unfortunately, the film descends to a dramatic level when they manage to escape from the lab.

All subsequent events could not interest me anymore, one was even more unbelievable than the other and the clichés could not be counted on one hand.

The cast is largely intact with an addition here and there. Aidan Gillen was the most appealing to me, known from Game of Thrones of course.

Visually it is strong, half a point extra for that.

However, I can't give more than 2*, this film as a whole is too bad for that. Should I really push myself to see the third part I'm afraid..

The group that managed to escape from “The Glade” in The Maze Runner seems to have found a safe haven with Mr Janson [Aiden Gillen]. It is admittedly better there than in “The Glade”, but Thomas [Dylan O'Brien] quickly has the feeling that Mr Janson may be in cahoots with WICKED. Escape is therefore desirable in this repetition of moves in which the presence of Will Poulter is sorely missed. Moreover, the story is no more than a connecting piece between the opening and the end of the trilogy. You can actually skip it.
