It's a shame that not many more cyberpunk movies have been made than a handful and this is the only one I know of with a story from the creator of the genre: William Gibson. The budget should have been enough, but certain effects were not that advanced and probably too much has been spent on some 3D computer effects that now seem too weak.

Entertaining and delightfully eccentric with the mix of Jakuza and dubious globalist companies, the resistance against it from the ghetto and a psychopathic Lundgren with a Jesus complex. Nice ideas too with a CEO who lives on as AI on the internet and a code-breaking dolphin. It depends a bit on these gimmicks and the action is mediocre to see, moreover, a little more visual flair could have been liked, decoration and decor are often just not enough. But it could have paved the way for improvements. Due to the disappointing box office result, cyberpunk was quickly forgotten until the Matrix films showed what you can achieve with a whopping budget.

As far as I'm concerned, it's time to make more of these kinds of films again. Internet and AI> have become serious topics and the technology regarding implants has also progressed a lot. The success of game series like Deus Ex also provides an interesting, largely unexplored background for new films and series, as long as enough money is thrown at it... it has to look good!

Love the 90's! Wonderfully clunky cyberpunk nonsense... and honestly an absolute trainwreck of a movie. Keanu Reeves, Dolph Lundgren, Henry Rollin, Udo Kier, Ice-T and Kitano(??). Reeves in the lead in particular is another unique achievement (I WANT ROOMSERVICE!!) and flies in all directions in terms of intensity. However, it is Lundgren who steals the show towards the end as killer savior, wonderfully over the top! 100% a product of its time and that charm is hard to describe, but I think the CGI presentation of the internet sums it up nicely

I thought it's 2021 now, see what they thought then. Fortunately, we don't live in such a world yet. A selection of well-known actors cannot save the furniture here, the story is not very interesting, and the film regularly comes across as chaotic and busy.

Nice to have seen once, but luckily our world is (even) less busy and chaotic.
