I had high expectations, but unfortunately these were not met by this film. Good actors, nice music, rough landscapes, cool bikes and beautiful women... and still deliver a boring movie? That is an achievement in itself. I'm a big fan of biker movies, but I quickly forgot about this one. The atmosphere is nice, but that's about it in this print that hangs together from chewed-up cliches (walking away casually in slow motion from an explosion, seriously..?) .

Tarantino as a big name on the cover and a cast with names reminiscent of the best Tarantino work. I was also looking forward to this, and what could go wrong...uhum... except that Tarantino is also directing himself...

At first glance Hell Ride seems to have a lot in terms of cast, story, connected producer, and what a cool movie poster by the way. But the whole thing comes out of the starting blocks insanely bad. Childlike squabbling between Pistolero and The Gent plus two vague flashbacks form the opening that can be called muddled and chaotic. What exactly is happening? Where should this go? Pistolero itself is to blame for this because Larry Bishop, who is by the way not well known to me, doesn't really come out as Pistolero at all and is simply not interesting. It therefore lacks Hell Ride initially as a strong main character.

But once over halfway there is some improvement in the whole. The plot becomes a bit clearer although some things are easy to guess, but Madsen is always nice especially in combination with opposite Balfour in this case. The music is nice and the crowd of beautiful women is again classy with names like Leonor Varela and Laura Cayouette. Jones, of course, is also nice as a grimy bad guy, just a shame about the exaggerated English accent, but Bischop remains the weakest link with his mediocre dialogues.

Still, I'm not going to rate Hell Ride very badly because past the halfway mark it's quite nice for once. It goes without saying that it stays far, very far from the Tarantino level. A 2.7 or 2.8 would have been fine, but rounded up to a 3, partly because of the nice camera work and styling.
