Senseless violence.

If there had been a little more wink, a little humor in the story, it might have been something. But I don't see it. Just Cassel and Bellucci together on repeat as a bunch of psychopaths who go off the rails for fun. And automatically find the answer to that from an equally psychopathic policeman. Especially distasteful, and without evoking the slightest smile. Although that must have been the intention.

Failed.

Reminded me a bit of a forerunner of what the guys from Crank were up to. A half-hearted one who comes out of the starting blocks quite chaotic and is a bit too bland from time to time. Not everyone is equally nice. The little guy who is constantly chewing is even intolerable.

What's funny is the cartoon it opens with. Ditto for the opening in the church. After that it is a case of sometimes wrong and then right. Kounen looks pretty flashy with some visual gimmicks and a soundtrack that participates very nicely. Too bad he doesn't do that consistently.

As if it lacks a certain rhythm. An extravagant, exuberant, exuberant and ultra violent film at its best, with the helmet, the baby and the free shave as eye-catchers. In addition, it has some fun details, such as the can opener, and Karyo is great as a derailed, brutal crazy kettle.

The Pastor is also good for a few entertaining moments. Less so for Cassel. Doberman may be the coolest of the bunch, but he's also a bit boring. It has the snippets of a hefty, pumped-up adrenaline rush, but as a whole it doesn't quite come off.

Bland active heel that lingers a bit between average and over-the-top. The occasionally glitzy editing and sometimes vital action scenes don't hide enough. Furthermore, I can only imagine that actors like Cassel and Duris look back on this with shame, because it is really painful to see how such great actors make a lot of sense here. Especially Duris really makes a mess of it. Oh well, everyone has their childhood sins.

Substandard fiddling with annoying clownish humor. Expected a lot more from it. 1.5*.
