Blade is half human/half vampire, because his mother was bitten during pregnancy. Blade grew up to be a vampire hunter out for revenge for his mother. The vampires, who have infiltrated almost every organization, need Blade's blood for a special ritual to take control of the Earth.

Pretty bad.
Review of Blade. Seen it a long, long, long time ago, I wasn't that impressed either. Strange, because Norrington should be quite a good director for this kind of semi-campy nonsense.
You also notice that there is a nice movie hidden somewhere in Blade, it just never comes out completely. The intro in the disco is now legendary and quite okay, but after that it actually goes downhill quickly.
Soundtrack is cool in itself but poorly used. Is often a bit stuck in the background and has little connection with the editing. In any case, the editing in this film is a drama. The action scenes are completely cut, with edits at the most horrible moments. Very badly put together.
Snipes is also dramatic in his role. Some kind of black Reeves. Zero emotion (not a disaster in itself), zero radiation (fatal). Whether he can actually fight is not really clear from this film, there is no move in full view for that.
What remains is a somewhat silly story with a smooth bad guy and a lame sidekick. It may be a slightly different vampire riff, but it is by no means more fascinating. Coming soon to the sequels. I think I've seen one of those too, but I'm not 100% sure. In any case, this first part is quite exaggerated.
Lacks cool, lacks fun, also lacks some better special effects and, above all, lacks a good editor. Fortunately there is still some funny camp in it.

One of the few movies I've ever dropped (the 1982 Annie is another - I can't remember the rest, for reasons that may be obvious), but I've got it now but given a second chance. And it has to be said, it's easy on the eyes, especially in the first half of the movie with all that blue and black in the night shots, but when the temptation of the visuals is over I'll start anyway to long for something to sink my teeth into, for example a plot, or characters, or interesting actors, and they are all easy to find. The biggest flaw is probably the casting of Stephen Dorff, whose character is Blade's great enemy but who as an actor is completely unconvincing, neither in performance nor in appearance of a milky mouth. But even apart from him, the action is full of repetitive martial arts and sword fights, the meeting of neatly dressed vampires of age is almost laughable, and the climactic ritual is nowhere exciting, scary or impressive. And I can't get excited for that famous opening scene either... no, I'd rather see my vampires a bit more exclusive and less cartoonish, and my action heroes with a bit more personality and a better haircut.

The first really good Marvel film adaptation, before X-Men and Spider-Man. It remains a good action horror with Wesley Snipes being cast for this role. It clicks with Kris Kristofferson and it doesn't want to be a family-friendly light blockbuster. It could be a little harder at times. After all these years, the film still stands firm, although you notice that the effects are very outdated. In itself, it was perhaps Marvel's strength that (besides the fact that the rights were with different studios), the style of the different franchises (Blade, X-Men, Spider-Man) were tailor-made. As a result, films like Daredevil and Fantastic Four fall through the cracks of course, but I think you get a little more freedom with the other films. It did help to find the right tone towards the MCU.
Snipes can't show all of his martial arts qualities, but enough to make Blade a bad ass. His somewhat taciturn performance also fits the character nicely. And great cool scenes too. His introduction to the blood rave for example, but also the murder of sidekick Quinn where he stylishly takes back the sunglasses and puts them on to continue fighting. Great cinema.
Some wear to the film here and there, but still a good action film.
