Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) are partners in the Miami Police Force. When a shipment of drugs is stolen from the police station, they have 72 hours to find it. “My shit always works sometimes!”
Bad Boys relies on the chemistry between Smith and Lawrence, and luckily the interplay remains very nice to watch. It is not annoying but very entertaining to have to listen to their bickering for two hours. And then add Téa Leoni as a non-cooperative witness and you have an entertaining trio with good chemistry.
The story is a bit standard but throw in some cool action and tough bad guys and you'll come a long way. The interplay between Smith, Lawrence and Leoni forms the heart of the film, but there is also a lot of momentum and it is all flashed on screen. In any case, you don't get bored. Bad Boys is just a light-hearted buddy cop movie that doesn't do much wrong, but it certainly isn't a high-flyer either. Relaxed on the couch, beer in hand and let it all wash over you. Top entertainment guaranteed.

A little less than I had in mind, this first part of the buddycop series. Although Smith and Lawrence fill their roles nicely, the action is a bit disappointing. For me it also became clear that in the field of action scenes it is not yet what Bay can do. Of course the action is good, but successor Bad Boys II made it clear to me that Bay had made steps in the field of action scenes, so that, although opinions differ completely, the second part is a better film than its predecessor because the progress in great action scenes is clear. has become visible. Yet Bad Boys also manage to entertain, thanks in part to the amount of humor and the bickering between Mike and Marcus.

Bay's debut and one of his better ones, I think mainly because it's a bit smaller. It's still not a great movie though. The humor doesn't always work and Lawrence is certainly very annoying, so that buddying never comes to fruition. The action at times is fine, graphics are okay (although sometimes it has a bit too much gold sheen) and Smith is always fine. But unfortunately it's only half of the movie. 2.5*.
