"Let your imagination soar."

Passepartout is a Chinese thief who steals a valuable Buddhist heirloom and then seeks to hide in the traveling company of eccentric London inventor and adventurer Phileas Fogg. Fogg has made a bet with the members of his gentlemen's club to travel around the world in eighty days. During his tour, Passepartout regularly uses his amazing fighting techniques to defend Fogg against the many dangers they encounter. A big threat is a detective who travels after them, who assumes that Fogg raided the Bank of England before he left.

Jules Verne would be turning in his grave. Where the book mainly focuses on adventure and SF (at that time anyway), this has just become slapstick with the presence of Jackie Chan. His stunts are fun at times, but like most of the Hollywood comedies he's in, Jackie never goes full throttle and his great choreographies are pretty limited. The journey around the world is also quite predictable with bad guys chasing the main characters and the duo going through all kinds of things. Fun at times, but mostly not. Steve Coogan is not exactly the actor to pull a film, Chan is almost on autopilot and only Cécile De France provides a small bright spot here. Even if it's just a pilot light.

Chan's always dodged this one a bit, but to plug some holes... it had to happen! Nice to be able to conclude that it is all presented with a big wink, sufficient Chan action and many famous heads. Coraci usually hits the mark, but I least expected it from this one. Have faith in Jackie That man can turn (almost) anything into something fun. Much of his American work is difficult to digest, but this adventurous 2-hour work is not one of them.

Mme.

This isn't a very special film, it didn't really convince me anywhere. It's a movie with a decent budget. This is not really noticeable everywhere in the quality of the film, because visually it is not too special.

Schwarzenegger as king is also an unusual choice, and does not do so convincingly. Normally I really like it, but here it doesn't really fit. Chan is also only there for his tricks, and Coogan is also quite natural here.

What's nice is the story, though. Some locations are nicely portrayed, but the film could have been a little shorter. Clearly a children's film with a bit more action here and there, but otherwise it's not too special.
