Finally a film by Michael Bay that is worth watching, that was about ten years ago with the Island.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi tells the true story of several terrorist/combatant attacks in 2012 (that killed the United States ambassador) on a secret CIA compound and the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
The lead up is a bit long but is in fact the most interesting part of the film. The chaos and danger in Libya is well portrayed, there is constant threat in the air and the images (shot in Morocco and Malta) look beautiful.
The action that follows is also okay, especially the tension just before an attack and the excellent car chase is good. Furthermore, the story is fairly standard but well finished, although the director goes a bit over the top at the end.
Furthermore, my compliments to the relatively unknown cast, each of whom puts in a good acting performance. Especially James Badge Dale convinced me.
Good movie, although it could have been less than half an hour in length.

When I saw the name Michael Bay as a director in the reviews beforehand, I held my breath because he had slipped a bit after his furore once with The Rock and the Bad Boys films. Particularly because of his absurd 'from thick wood you saw planks' films. But I have to say that this film does rehabilitate him quite a bit.

The comparison with Black Hawk Down is very obvious and has also been mentioned in previous comments. This is mainly due to the atmosphere that this film exudes with a group of soldiers who are somewhere where they really have nothing to do anymore. The end is also endearing, not in the least because of the always sublime Hans Zimmer who strikes the right chord with his music.

The film does show Bay's trademark by the amount of bullets and debris that fly around your ears in this film. Of course this will have been a little less in real life. It didn't bother me, in fact, Bay shows that he can handle these kinds of more serious films. The American soldier bravado is not exaggerated too much and indeed this film is approached from several angles, including the torn country that Libya had become after the fall of Ghadaffi. At that time, America had no business in desolate Libya and that fact was not completely overshadowed by the action in the film.

Of course there are some clichés here and there like the torn American flag in the pool and the zooming in on the CIA monument. But I'm taking that into consideration here.

Also special were the mainly relatively unknown actors. I only recognized the FBI agent Conlin from the 6th Homeland season but other than that the names didn't bother me.

Gripping top film that deserves a 4+ score and stays with you.

All the gods, all the heavens, all the hells, are within you.

13 hours is an incredibly solid and strong film adaptation of this event. As far as Bay is concerned, I think this is also his most serious film and that's how he approached him. Comic notes at the right moments and an action-packed film adaptation.

Of course you also see a lot of Bay ingredients in it. Patriotism, good camera work, alpha males and of course, EXPLOSIONS!

This film genuinely captivated me for 2h and 25m. Normally this is quite long for a true story and tends to get tedious, but I don't think that's the case here. Just a good exciting film adaptation, with wonderful shots (literally). The moments when the bullets penetrate the Taliban looked good or that shot with that sniper between those car windows, where he went through the head of that Taliban trying to fire his bazooka was also cool.

All in all, for me I think it's the best Bay movie I've seen so far.
