J.K. Rowling insists that she was invited to the Harry Potter reunion special which aired on Sky earlier this year.
The author created the Harry Potter world in the 1990s and would go on to write all seven books in the series. The movie franchise is also one of the most lucrative and popular in history, with eight movies grossing an astonishing $7.7 billion worldwide.
For the 20-year anniversary of the first movie being released, Sky aired a special titled Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.
It featured most of the cast including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Robbie Coltrane, Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter among others.
Conspicuous by her absence was Rowling which led to speculation online that she had not been invited to the reunion due to her controversial comments regarding trans people.
But, she says she turned down the invite.
“I was asked to be on that, and I decided I didn’t want to do it,” she previously said in a conversation with Graham Norton for Virgin Radio.
“I thought it was about the films more than the books, quite rightly.
"That was what the anniversary was about.”
Rowling on social media
Rowling has received death threats due to some of her comments in the past, and she believes social media has given the platform for people to act in such a manner.
“I try to behave online as I would like others to behave. ... I’ve never threatened anyone, obviously, and I certainly wouldn’t want anyone to go to their houses or anything like that,” Rowling said.
“Social media can be a lot of fun, and I do like the pub argument aspect of it. That can be a fun thing to do but there’s no doubt that social media is a gift for people who want to behave in a malign way."
