Passionate, or some might say idiotic, comic book movie fans don't help to shake off that label when terms like #BoycottAquaman2 trend on social media.

The first Aquaman movie was an enormous success for DC Studios and Warner Bros as it went on to gross over $1 billion at the box office, with star Jason Momoa in the title role as Arthur Curry/Aquaman.

A sequel was soon greenlit, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will be released this December.

But, there are some 'fans' who are encouraging others to avoid seeing the movie in the cinema so that it fails.

So, why?

The presence of Amber Heard

Throughout the pre-production and production of Aquaman 2, Amber Heard was involved in an extremely high-profile court case with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. 

During the infamous defamation trial, the actress suggested that her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom had been cut down due to the negative publicity surrounding the court case. 'Entertainment industry consultant' Kathryn Arnold suggested that Heard was purposefully left off promotional material for Aquaman 2, while the studio pressured director James Wan to minimise her role as much as possible.

Wan has completely denied those claims.

Still, some Aquaman fans are still not happy that Heard features in the second movie, and a petition was even created online to replace her with Momoa's Game of Thrones co-star Emilia Clarke.

Some DC fans are desperate for Zak Snyder to return

While Zak Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Justice League movies did not receive unanimous praise, there are some fans who are fiercely loyal to his work, particularly after the Snyder Cut of The Justice League was released.

They are so desperate for Snyder to return that they have been actively boycotting DC projects in theaters in the hope that, should they bomb, then Warner Bros. will have no choice but to ask Snyder to return.

Yes, that is what these people really believe will happen.

James Gunn

James Gunn, clearly, knows his stuff when it comes to comic book movies. He wrote and directed the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, The Suicide Squad and is currently working on a new Superman movie.

Last year, he was appointed in an executive role at Warner Bros. to create a new DC movie universe over the next 10 years.

Some trolls online just do not seem to like Gunn, and they believe that his presence also led to Snyder's departure from DC movies.

This is despite Gunn and Snyder being friends.
