Alien: Romulus star Isabela Merced is excited for fans to see one particular "disgusting" scene in the new movie.
The first Alien, directed by Sir Ridley Scott, was released in 1979. It was a claustrophobic horror set in space, with hero Ellen Ripley and her crewmates terrorised by a being that would eventually be known as a Xenomorph.
The original trilogy continued with Aliens, directed by James Cameron, who added more of an action element to the story, while David Fincher's Alien 3 was set on a remote prison planet.
Sigourney Weaver, who played Ripley, would return for Alien: Resurrection in 1997.
Over a decade later, Ridley Scott would return to direct the prequel movie set in the Alien universe, Prometheus, and that was followed by Alien: Covenant. Neill Blomkamp was heavily involved in the development of a new movie, but his pitch was ditched in favour of a vision from Fede Alvarez.
Merced recalled how she and her colleagues were allowed to watch a few scenes on a tablet, one of which led to her pals turning away in disgust.
"When we were doing reshoots, Fede Alvarez gave me the iPad where he watches playback, and he had the movie pulled up," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
"So I told him I wanted to see parts of it, and he showed it to me. I was the one holding the iPad, and there were 10 people around me watching it on the iPad. So there’s a scene that I’m in, and they all had to turn away. Not one person stayed looking at that iPad because it was so disgusting.
"So I’m really, really excited for that one. Again, I’m lucky enough to be a part of these projects with the best of the best. I can’t believe it. I’m so in shock, and I don’t know when I’m going to wake up."
What is the plot of Alien: Romulus?
A vague premise exists which reads:
'The story follows a group of young people on a distant world who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.'
