Hugh Jackman on a potential sequel to The Greatest Showman

Hugh Jackman is open to the possibility of appearing in a sequel to 2017 hit, The Greatest Showman.

The original movie tells the story of P.T. Barnum, played by Jackman, a famous entertainer and entrepreneur who goes on to create the Barnum & Bailey Circus, which showcases a variety of weird and wonderful individuals.

It was a commercial success, earning $435 million worldwide on a budget of $84m.

A musical, the soundtrack became enormously popular upon the movie's release. The song 'This is Me' earned nominations for Best Song at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards, winning the former.

Michelle Williams, who played Charity Hallett-Barnum in The Greatest Showman, recently enthusiastically spoke about her desire for a sequel to eventually happen.

“I would make another one of those in a heartbeat,” she told Variety.

“That movie brought so much joy to so many people and to make people that happy, man that is a worthwhile thing to spend your time doing. I really love that movie. My daughter Matilda sang those songs. My mom is still listening to that soundtrack.”

Jackman open to a Greatest Showman sequel

When asked about Williams' comments. Jackman also expressed a willingness to return as P.T. Barnum.

“I’m always open, if they come up with a good idea. Yeah, I’m open!" he said to People Magazine.

In typical Jackman style, he through in some charm and wit in the conversation, too, joking that he has been against doing sequels in his career.

This is, of course, in reference to him appearing numerous times as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise.

“Listen, if you know anything about my filmography, you’d know I’m totally against sequels in every shape or form," he said, tongue in cheek, in reference to his several years playing Wolverine.

"No more than nine films!”
