Schrok eerst even toen ik de foto zag met Woody Allen, was al bang dat Allen overleden was..

Dat was wel wat groter nieuws geweest.

R.I.P. Claude Chabrol. Ondanks dat zijn films mij aanspreken heb ik er nooit wat van gezien. Misschien dat ik daar deze week eens werk van maak.

Met Chabrol zo relatief snel na Rohmer dood blijven er nog weinig nouvelle vague regisseurs over.

De films die ik van hem zag dateren bijna allemaal uit de jaren '60.

Veel kansen om zijn werk te zien krijg je hier ook niet.

De Duitse TV doet er hooguit wel eens iets aan.

Zijn goede films beklijven. Nog pas een fractie van zijn werk gezien.

RIP Claude Chabrol

Heb pas een film van m gezien (Le Boucher), maar die vond ik dan ook wel geweldig.

Opnieuw een zeer 'grote' meneer weg.

Chabrol lanceerde ook de carrière van Isabelle Huppert. Zij brak in 1978 door in zijn film "Violette Nozière", waarvoor ze bekroond werd met de prijs voor beste actrice op het Filmfestival van Cannes. Ze werkte daarna nog vaak met Chabrol samen, o.a. in "Une affaire de femmes" en "Merci pour le chocolat".

RIP Claude Chabrol.

Laatst nog drie films van hem gezien.

Beetje ondergesneeuwd, maar twee dagen geleden is Kevin McCarthy (o.a. het origineel van Invasion of the Bodysnatchers) overleden!

Chabrol staat nog altijd op de to-do-lijst, maar het is er toch weer een uit een generatie die sterft. Veel zijn er niet meer over van de vernieuwende Europese filmmakers die in de jaren '40 tot '60 doorbraken.

Ze hebben er ook wel de leeftijd naar, nietwaar? Maar Godard en Rivette leven toch nog?

Tuurlijk hebben ze de leeftijd en er zijn er nog steeds een aantal over,, maar het maakt me een beetje melancholiek.

Actrice REBEL RANDALL is op 90 jarige leeftijd overleden.

Randall speelde in zo'n 50 films.

Zanger Eddie Fisher is woensdagnacht overleden. De popzanger uit de jaren vijftig is 82 jaar geworden. De zanger stierf aan complicaties van een heupoperatie in een ziekenhuis in Berkely.

Fisher had naast zijn zangcarriére ook een eigen tv-show. Hij is vijf keer getrouwd geweest, onder andere met Elizabeth Taylor en actrice Debbie Reynolds. De zanger en Reynolds waren het ideale paar van Amerika. Reynolds werd verlaten voor Elizbeth Taylor, de weduwe van zijn beste vriend.

De zanger was tot 1964 getrouwd met Elizabeth. Na de scheiding ging het steeds slechter met de carriére van Fisher. Hij had minder optredens en raakte drugs- en gokverslaafd.

Bekende liedjes van Eddie Fisher zijn Oh, My Pa-pa, Lady of Spain en Thinking of You.

RIP Eddie Fisher.

Gloria Stuart overleden op 100 jarige leeftijd

De Amerikaanse actrice Gloria Stuart is zondag 26 september op 100-jarige leeftijd overleden in Los Angeles aan de gevolgen van longkanker. Stuart was een bekende actrice in de jaren dertig, maar werd bij een jongere generatie bekend als de oude Rose DeWitt Bukater in de film Titanic.

Haar dochter Sylvia Thompson heeft het nieuws aan de Los Angeles Times bevestigd.

Stuart startte haar loopbaan in de jaren dertig in horrorfilms en musicals. Ze speelde in films als 'The Invisible Man', 'The Kiss Before the Mirror' en 'The Lady Objects'. In 1997 vervulde ze de rol van de oude Rose (Kate Winslet vertolkte Rose in haar jongere jaren) in de kaskraker Titanic van James Cameron. In 2004 was Stuart voor het laatst te zien op het witte doek in Land of Plenty van regisseur Wim Wenders.

Stuart won in haar leven diverse filmprijzen, waaronder een Screen Actor Guild Award voor haar rol in Titanic. Voor diezelfde rol werd ze op 87-jarige leeftijd genomineerd voor een Oscar, waarmee ze de oudste genomineerde actrice ooit werd.
