Courteney Cox, the girl who started her career in a Bruce Springsteen video. Now director of what is already her second film, and in the meantime it is also thirty years later. That director was not her first calling is also clear, and the film is not very special either. There seems to be a fair amount of consensus about that.

Because, the story is already too weak and bland, the actors do their job but without much inspiration, the image is actually nowhere inspiring, the soundtrack is not particularly well chosen. It's not really bad at all. Watching material, forgotten again tomorrow.

Ted Morgan [Seann William Scott] is 41, works in a pet shop and has no wife or children. In his eyes, his life is a failure and so he decides to end it all, but not before giving the people he holds responsible for his own failure a piece of his mind. So he returns to his hometown. David Flebotte's screenplay is full of well-developed characters and is a complex mix of emotions. In her first feature film as a director, Cox makes a great impression with the self-assured way in which she maintains the right balance between drama and humor and thereby manages to get strong performances from the entire cast. Scott is excellent in the lead role.

I have mixed feelings about this movie. On the one hand I thought it was a weird movie with exaggerated/odd humor, and on the other hand it had a very important message that I found very strong. I thought it was a strange combination, but I don't regret seeing the movie.
