The Wraith plot

"He's not from around here..."

A small desert town is terrorized by a gang of street racers, led by the psychopathic Packard (Nick Cassavetes). Nobody does anything about it, because everyone is afraid of them, except Jake (Charlie Sheen), who has just moved into town. One day a mysterious black car appears. The mysterious driver challenges the gang members to street races, which always end in a fatal accident. Neither the racers nor the police can get hold of the mysterious car or the driver because the car seems to disappear into thin air every time. They will investigate who the driver is and why he is targeting the street racers.

Wrong cars, wrong haircuts, wrong 80's pop... Charlie Sheen, Nick Cassavetes, Randy Quaid, Clint Howard... and yet it is not self-evident that it all works well. Irritating caricatures such as Skank and Gutterboy (Rughead too, but hey... Clint Howard and his crazy hairline work ) and the rather infantile script make it a bit more difficult to enjoy at times, but in the end The Wraith enough of its cheesy charm to convince.

What kind of strange video is this? Bizarre story that still hangs together illogically, even through your fantasy glasses. It may be something supernatural, but there is no way to tie a knot given the lock. Jake (Charlie Sheen) is the avenging angel with the mysterious black car that can suddenly disappear. After his revenge actions, he gives the keys to his car to his brother and just disappears with Keri (Sherilyn Fenn) to other places. Now a story full of fantasy is nice, but this is not right at all. Someone who is murdered and comes back to take revenge with powerful weapons such as invisibility, a fast car and a special suit cannot just give a fantasy car as a gift afterwards and simply drive away back among the living with his loved one. Or will they ride away together to the afterlife? Even then you are still left with a lot of questions and illogic despite the imaginative idea. Nick Cassavetes plays his role as psychopathic Packard well. His buddies are weird guys like Skank, Gutterboy, Rughead and Oggie. Actually a bit over the top in terms of characters. Charlie Sheen as Jake is not seen for half an hour at a certain point, but that is not really disturbing. Randy Quaid's role as sheriff is meaningless. A plus point is the beautiful appearance of Keri (Sherilyn Fenn), who provides some beautiful shots and can even be seen naked for a moment. The story also has many of the same types of scenes that return, such as car racing. The music has no added value here, it does provide the necessary 80s atmosphere...but fun is something else. The film is a pure action film full of fantasy, but I could not identify the horror genre here. There is plenty to do and for the nonsensical story, Sherilyn Fenn can still give it a fiver. 5/10

The Wraith is a fun and entertaining film. The story has few surprises, but the setting with the gang, the car and some random characters makes it very entertaining.
