Yes, quite brilliant.

Wonderful horror again from Tobe Hooper. Just like in TCM, there is that typical dusty and dirty atmosphere here. Now in Louisiana and a different kind of maniac who is slaughtering.

The atmosphere is good, as I just said. This is clearly noticeable in the (often red) lighting during the film.

The crazy (whatever he does! ) in this film is certainly there and he kills it wonderfully. It's amazing how he storms through the hotel with a scythe.

The soundtrack also helps to give the film a disturbed impression. The music is not beautiful, but it is nice and crazy.

This film clearly shows that it comes from the same hat as the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), but it cannot be compared to that film. He lacks too much tension and scare moments for that. There was something funny about the weirdo Judd, especially when he chased his victims with a scythe. I wasn't able to discover any real gore and those nude scenes were nothing, but that is usually the case with American productions as opposed to Italian productions. It's a shame of course because those girls looked quite nice.

I can't say much good about this. All those former not-quite-stars must have scratched their heads when they saw the end result, and if Steven Spielberg was worried about what Bruce would look like, he must have realized from this film that it can always be worse. Cheap cheaper cheapest, and apart from a lot of feminine beauty (and unnecessary nudity), a suggestive soundtrack and a nice scene under the hotel (thanks to the young Kyle Richards as little Angie), this only scores high on the so-bad- it's-good-but-not-really-meter.
