Unavoidable setback after the masterly original, one of my favorite films. Always dangerous to make a sequel to a classic. Director Danny Boyle knows the pitfalls like no other but, despite only good intentions, does not succeed in turning this into something very memorable. Visually there is a lot to enjoy; the movie looks great thanks to Anthony Dod Mantle's camera work and there are lots of nice finds and flashbacks. Unfortunately, the characters are very flat and the plot feels rather contrived. It's not badly done and the movie is entertaining enough, but the magic is simply lacking.

“World changes, eh, June? Even if we don't.”

Not as good as the first part, but T2 Trainspotting still has the magic. It's a joy to see Renton, Spud, Simon and Begbie again, with more wrinkles but still the same strokes. McGregor, Miller, Bremner and Carlyle still have fantastic chemistry, and Boyle throws another audiovisual party. The music in particular is wonderful, and Macdonald's cameo as Diana is fun too.

McGregor's 'Choose Life' monologue shows once again what a great actor he is, and the scene is reminiscent of Edward Norton's 'fuck you' monologue in 25th Hour. Also shout out to the great scene with the 'No More Catholics Left' song. T2 Trainspotting feels like coming home, completely with cocaine, fights, crime, extortion, sex and of course Viagra. Just because it's possible...

Unnecessary sequel that can never match the original. Unnecessary because it is a repetition of moves, which is fun at most based on a certain sentiment. Skillfully made and well acted, though. In addition, the stupid and criminal behavior better suits the youthful sins, now that they are 20 years older, they are just common criminals.
