A group of misfits from New Mexico embark on a huge adventure when their racehorse qualifies for the 'Kentucky Derby'. However, the horse has crooked legs and therefore has little chance. During the journey to the tournament, they encounter all kinds of obstacles, but they don't let them stop them. Based on a true story.

A beautiful film that is especially aimed at horse lovers.
The famous Kentucky Derby will play a major role in the story. It's based on a true story, but the main characters will have to deal with more than just a horse race.
Personally, I'm not much into horse racing, but this film manages to touch a nerve at times. Strong performances by Skeet Ulrich. The humor is also present here and there.

A really great film. I'm not into horse racing, but I still really enjoyed getting a glimpse into this world. The story is predictable, but nevertheless very entertaining. It's based on a true story! After the credits, some real footage appears. From that, you can tell the story has been followed very closely. Great film!

The backstory of perhaps the most remarkable victory in the Kentucky Derby, America's most famous horse race. In May 2009, Mine That Bird was considered a lost cause, partly because the horse world's elite looked down on his owners, a pair of "cowboys" from New Mexico. Ulrich and Atkinson play the cowboy brothers in question, veteran William Devane the loyal investor, and Madelyn Deutch the horse trainer. Because the outcome of the race (in which jockey Calvin Borel plays himself) is predetermined, the remarkable race isn't particularly exciting. Nevertheless, this is an entertaining David vs. Goliath story.
