Beautiful, breathtaking shots. I've been bawling my eyes out. Film will be no less than the better known L'ours by Jean-Jacques Annaud. Highly recommended for fans of a good nature film. Bears has only one major disadvantage: The narration of the famous actor John C. Reilly (indeed, the one with the faithful dog face) is not good and quite irritating. He talks like he's addressing a bunch of toddlers. Bears may be presented as a real life adventure film, but a little less infantile commentary from the narrator would not have been an unnecessary luxury.

Disney has a habit of reimagining nature documentaries. And so the bears in this film are given human traits and they are all given names. We follow Mama Bear Skye and her children Amber and Scout, who could just as well have been called Paddington and Pooh, they are that cute. Of course, we soon discover that they think like humans do and that they often behave exactly like us!

Unfortunately, you have to put up with such nonsense until the real struggle for survival begins and this documentary finally faces the reality of what it is like. And life is not always happy. Although the makers make full use of editing techniques to suggest a story - during the end credits we see the crew at work - there are many impressive moments. There are regular confrontations with unfriendly competitors who want to attack each other, but it is the beautiful images of trout fishing that remain in your retina for a long time. Not particularly educational but enjoyable for the family, although some moments are a bit too scary for the little ones.

Super beautiful images of the bears, and also very clever how they can follow the family through the seasons - and quite a bit of luck that they succeed. And perhaps the story works for a target group of very young children, but wow, it would have been nice if Attenborough or Palin had done the voiceover for this. Fortunately, you can simply turn off the sound, so you don't really miss anything about the music.

The location of the action is the Katmai Park, where the annual Fat Bear Week 'competition' also takes place, and where you can watch the bears via the live streams of explore.org as they pick one salmon after another from the river. Nice to see the familiar landscape from a different angle and with much better image quality in this film. It even seems that the world famous bear 480 'Otis' is playing along - a multiple Fat Bear Week winner, and also a serious contender for the title for a bear who is already very old, and a serious contender for the title again this year - you can watch him in a week to vote!
