Stockholm 1982. Bobo, Klara and Hedvig are teenage girls, aged around 12-13, who roam the streets. Who are tough and hard and strong, but also weak and confused and strange. Who have to fend for themselves way too early, and stick those fish fingers in the toaster when Mother is back in the bar. And who start a punk band without instruments, even though everyone says punk is dead.

A film about rebellious teenage girls who want to be different from the other superficial, made-up prudes who at most listen to new wave and disco. No, it has to be punk, and if we’re heading in that direction, we’re doing it right and taking the microphone and drums into our own hands. When you see the girls, you immediately notice how they set themselves apart from the current standard with their hairstyles and temperament. As outsiders, they let loose in the music.
Nice plot, but not very inspiring for me. I didn't connect with it all that much, even though I thought it was all neat and well done. Good casting, nice atmosphere, solid plot, but not the feeling of "I'll remember this for a long time". Not on the level of Fucking Amal or Lilja 4-ever, but that's no shame, of course.

Moodyson manages to conjure very natural performances from his three charming, youthful lead actors in this at times amusing, but somewhat directionless comedic drama about two thirteen-year-old girls [Mira Barkhammer, Mira Grosin] who decide to escape their outsider status by starting a band, even though they have never played an instrument. Their youthful enthusiasm alone does not get them very far, and out of desperation, they seek help from Hedvig [Liv Lemoyne], a seemingly prim girl who plays guitar well. Fortunately, it never falls into the clichés of the teen genre, but the story is quite thin.

Not a bad atmospheric portrait on the surface, but it never really came to life for me. I got the feeling that the film tried too hard, wanted too hard to paint a cool picture, and therefore felt contrived. 2.0*.
