After a day of auditions for his theater play, Thomas finds himself alone in a Paris theater with little hope of finding a suitable actress. No one has the qualities to play the leading role. When he is about to leave, Vandra enters. Vandra embodies everything Thomas hates. She is vulgar, brainless and will do anything to get the part. The skeptical Thomas gives her a chance anyway and is surprised when Vandra literally undergoes a metamorphosis. As the audition continues, Thomas's intensity doubles and Thomas's attraction turns into an obsession.
