A film with just enough funny moments to keep you watching.

The story isn't exactly exciting, but the distinct characters make the film and create some funny situations.

The fact that quite a few bigger names appear on screen for a short time, and also have nice roles, also makes for plenty of viewing pleasure (including Ava Gardner, Stacy Keach, John Huston, Jacqueline Bisset (who is very beautiful), Anthony Perkins).

3*

A good film about a man who appoints himself a judge to maintain order in the Wild West. Despite the setting, it's certainly not your typical Western (especially because of the many comical moments). The story is perhaps a bit too congested, but it remains entertaining. Thanks in part to the excellent epilogue, it still gets 3.5 stars.

Nostalgia.

A kind of late Western, and very, very loosely based on the life of the "real" Roy Bean. Enlivened by a vast array of urban myths—but with a rural twist. Brought to life by Paul Newman, with a little help from supporting actors, some of whom would later end up in Dallas. But also small roles for Anthony Perkins, Stacy Keach—and Jacqueline Bisset and Ava Gardner.

I think the best actor is the bear. It's a shame he's only in for such a short time.
