The Viking plot

The Canadian icebreaker The Viking, commanded by Captain Barker, picks up a number of fur sealers off the coast of Labrador. Among these fighters are the violent Jed Nelson and the young fisherman Luke Oarum, who is considered a curse for bringing bad luck. The relationship between the two men is tense because they are both in love with the local young lady Mary Joe. Jed tries to convince Luke to join the expedition in hopes of causing an accident that will allow him to get rid of his rival.
