A quasi-gangster event with well-thought-out plans, interrogations and deceptions, and all this wrapped in an incoherent whole with separate scenes. Edward Burns with his steely look and macho behavior was disappointing and what Guzmán normally makes a party on his own, he couldn't contribute much here. Things are repeated and there is a voice-over that gives you an explanation. It didn't make things much more impressive. There is a plate of spaghetti on the table. It smells good, it's warm and completely served with cheese, but with every bite you take there are ten leaves of lettuce, a spoonful of curry and a glass of chocolate milk. It's already cold half way through and you can't really enjoy it.

Good film in which a group of professional scammers find themselves in debt to a mafia boss. A little original scam film with the usual twists and turns, but certainly entertaining. Fun characters filled in by a more than capable cast. Visually, the film resembles a film noir in color. A narrow 3.5 stars.

Film that has some resemblance to the Ocean Eleven franchise. Didn't always find this clear and even confused. Could also be me of course. I couldn't care less about the plot line or how it was put together. Quarrel here and quarrel there, swindling the scammer or the defrauded scammed, I let it get to me.
Furthermore, a remarkable role of Dustin Hoffmann as deputy mafia boss. Couldn't really appeal to me. Unconvincing and his eccentric behavior did not show enough through his character as a whole. Could also be that it was a miscast. I loved Giamatti as always. Great actor though!
Film is only moderately developed and is not always interesting. Certainly not bad, but rather one out of a dozen. So not very refreshing.
