Calamity Jane plot

"Warner Bros.' sky highest, smile widest, wild and woolliest Western of 'em all!"

Calamity Jane is the roughest girl in the wild west; she rides a horse and shoots with her weapons like a man. She seeks her new adventure in Deadwood, where she is welcomed by Wild Bill and her boyfriend Danny Gilmartin. In the evening they go to the saloon, where an actress from New York will perform. Unfortunately she became ill and she is replaced by the singer Francis Fryer. The public does not accept this and revolts. To calm the angry mob, Jane promises the famed Adelaid Adams will perform. She manages to arrange Adelaid, but due to a misunderstanding it is not Adelaid but her servant Katie Brown who takes the stage. Soon, Katie is adored by the public.

If I wasn't so enthusiastic about Pillow Talk, I liked this western musical a lot better. Also reminded me a bit of the great musicals that were made in the 50's like Singin' in the Rain, The Band Wagon etc. Excellent performance by Doris Day as Calamity Jane. One of the highlights was her performance of Secret Love, a beautiful song with which she topped the American charts for weeks in 1954.

By the way, this is the 2nd film with Doris Day, who passed away last year, that I have seen. The other one was as I mentioned before Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson among others.

3.5*

A wonderful Doris Day - the lady we love all the time - in a pleasant musical, pleasant, easy viewing in a casual western atmosphere, embellished of course with a lot of adapted music and lyrics.

Calimity has a heart of gold, is straight to the point, overflowing with dynamism, but it's all wrapped up in a shell that doesn't have a charming woman to recognize.

However, when love enters, things will change and who better than the Americans can convert such a situation into a film that makes everyone feel good and if they then have a whopper of a song like "Secret Love"? between throws everyone is won for this "Calamity Jane".

An acceptable, relaxing plot, nice performances and also to be appreciated from a cinematic point of view.

Also taken to hear the warm voice of "Hoooard" Keel again.

Good film in which a cowgirl ensures that a well-known actress performs in her town. A fairly standard 1950s musical set in the wild west. The story is not too much, but there is enough progress. A few nice songs, but it is mainly Doris Day who makes the film here and puts down the spicy Calamity Jane with great dedication.
