Muhammad Ali Is one of those few sports phenomena that just about everyone knows, whether you are a sports follower or not. You don't even have to see a boxing match to know who the man is. An enormous charisma and personality in the ring, but also at least as great and popular outside of it. There's no question that his life and choices haven't made it easy for him, but just like in the ring, he's always fought his way through it and that deserves tons of respect whether you agree with him or not...

Also for Will Smith it was an honor to play Ali. He also did a great job matching the character Ali. Rightly acclaimed by the critics, because he did a fine and convincing job. He also traveled a long way physically, well-trained body!

Ali's life was so diverse and diverse that it was impossible to cover everything. Mann made the attempt anyway, but almost tripped over trying to do it too well or too completely. This sometimes led to a bit of a mess, so that the overview was sometimes lost. Too little depth in some events. A pity, but commendable, partly because of Will Smith.

Solid.

I'm not much of a Will Smith fan and I'm not blown away by his acting here either. The truth compels me to note that I do not know Muhammed Ali and his tics either. So I guess that nervous macho thing was Ali's own. In any case, it is very unpleasant to watch. That Ali must not have been an overly sympathetic figure, if what it is portrayed is somewhat correct.

Michael Mann also knows how to shoot a movie. Even the boxing scenes, usually quite monotonous, can come out fresh every now and then. Mann does take his time. So it could have been a little better framed at times. The film covers a period of about 10 years, but sometimes it seems as if it only takes place in a year or two. Pluses are there for the soundtrack.

Ali is an interesting movie because I didn't know that much about this boxing legend myself. Will acts well and shows that he has quite a bit to offer.
