Admission plot
"Let someone in."
Portia Nathan is on the admissions committee of Princeton University. She is very driven and lives her life by the book, both at work and in her relationship with her faculty colleague Mark. While visiting New Hampshire's experimental high school, she meets John Halsey, who turns out to have attended college with her. She is reminded of the decision she made during her studies that changed her life. She had a son she gave up for adoption and now he turns out to be one of John's students, precocious misfit Jeremiah. In the hope of getting Jeremiah on the right track, she begins to adjust the entry requirements.
