Quite a cool whole, quite a few cliches and few surprises - the story is not very interesting, and the somewhat forced hip stuff with the choir is also a bit too hackneyed. But, Terence Stamp saves the film, more than Redgrave and Arterton. Especially in the final scene he has it all, better than the original by Billy Joel and full of very real emotion.

Just saw this on one of the NPO channels.

What a sweet, warm, heart-warming film.

Stamp has always been one of my favorite actors, but usually as a villain or hitman and not in a more vulnerable role.

Arterton has been an increasingly better actress since I first saw her in Quantum of Solace and here she was simply excellent.

Too bad Redgrave's role was so relatively short, I always enjoy watching her play.

Furthermore, just a well-made feel-good movie, which, to be honest, affected me emotionally and I can definitely recommend it.

An eight, or four stars.

Knowing she doesn’t have long to live, Marion [Vanessa Redgrave] finds joy in singing in a senior choir led by Elizabeth [Gemma Arterton]. Meanwhile, husband Arthur [Terence Stamp] struggles with his failure as a husband and as a father to James [Christopher Eccleston], with whom he has had a difficult relationship for years. After Marion’s inevitable death, Arthur finds a way to express his frustration, grief and, most of all, his love for Marion through Elizabeth and the choir. Tearjerker is at times unashamedly sentimental and choir rehearsals are sometimes too jolly, but when push comes to shove, the excellent cast (including the disarming Orla Hill as granddaughter Jennifer) make for a real lump-in-the-throat performance. The rendition of the song to which the title refers is an absolute heartbreaker.
