A movie that didn't do much for me. I think it's reasonable. The emotions often didn't feel genuine, too fabricated, and I didn't care much for the story. I even found it quite boring and long-winded. I do think the two main characters are fine characters and the bond that develops between them is beautiful and special. I don't regret seeing this movie, but it doesn't feel indispensable either. A 6.3*

Friendly.

Michael Caine does a good job in this good nothing. In between all his Nolan collaborations and other blockbusters, it is sometimes pleasant to see him in such smaller films. It didn't really do much for me, but the film doesn't do anything wrong either. The pace is slow as the story ripples towards the end.

Surprisingly high rating for this film. Sometimes I don't care much for a film, but I can understand where the appreciation comes from, now I only partially understand it, especially because the film fails to convince me of the interaction between the characters. I understand that the main character is attracted to the main character because she reminds him of his deceased wife and that she sees him as a father figure. But there are so many other older men, why does she see him as a father figure? Anyway, I'm still willing to take this and the sequel is certainly sweet and emotional. But as far as I'm concerned, the film completely derails when the main character kisses with the incredibly rude son of the main character. Where does this come from?

Furthermore, this was filmed very dry, leaving me with a hangover afterwards. This is only somewhat saved by the acting performances of the main characters, but in terms of images and plot this is rubbish. 1.5*.
