"Proof Can Be a Powerful Weapon."
Things are not going well for ex-cop Billy Taggert (Mark Wahlberg). Then he is hired by the mayor of New York (Russell Crowe) to find out if his wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is unfaithful to him. However, when her lover is found dead, it sparks a political and financial web of conspiracies, lies and brutal violence.

Nice thriller about a mayoral election in New York and corrupt deals with a project developer. Story is not very original and protagonists seem a bit dull.
Haven't been this impressed with Russell Crowe in quite some time. I liked him in Gladiator and also in The Insider but that was a while ago.
The film does look fast to the end and never really gets boring. Enough.

Broken City brings together an impressive list of actors. It doesn't immediately make for a great movie, but Wahlberg, Crowe, Zeta-Jones, Wright, Pepper, Chandler and Tal make it more fun to watch. The scenes between Zeta-Jones and Crowe, and those between Wahlberg and Tal, are especially strong. Excellent chemistry, with a script that is predictable and unnecessarily complicated, but works as a crime story. Corruption, murder, fraud, extortion, adultery, etc. The well-known song. But with such actors (Crowe especially is looking forward to it) it is not a punishment to watch.
