Reasonable film where it is all too dull in my opinion, that applies to Daisy (Saoirse Ronan), the love affair with her cousin and the story itself. Don't think it all got off the ground. Daisy is a character with little depth, maybe that's what the director wanted to show, but that also makes it a little interesting character to live with. I can't place the kind of supernatural touch about her 'gift' either. In terms of Saoirse's acting, I find it very different from how she acts in (better) films such as Hanna (2011) and The Lovely Bones (2009), she reaches that level certainly not here.

In terms of theme, it reminded me of the qualitatively similar Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010), although it is an action film. And in terms of style I had to think of the post-apocalyptic Fin (2012), a better film as far as I'm concerned. 2.5*

You just gotta take that bad thing, put it in a box, close the lid, look up and you focus on your goal.

Quite Adult for a Young Adult, and I can understand that the book might be very good. Unfortunately, the movie isn't. The start is very messy and Ronan as an arrogant emo punk star just doesn't work, no matter how much I like to see her act. It gets better once she's really in her post-apocalyptic almost serene bad-ass role, but then she's getting in the way again by the incredibly annoying niece Piper. Children on film, it sometimes remains a difficult point.

The story that plays somewhere in the background is now quite grim, the romance is quite daring so to speak, but the film remains unbalanced and I personally found the editing much too flashy. It is not a failure, seen too many interesting things for that, but as I said, I just think that the book is a lot better.

A rather dark young adult film about a future in which war rages in Europe. The condition in which the characters are reminiscent of countries in the South or Middle East, where such situations unfortunately occur more often. The film does not really overwhelm, it remains rather fragmentary. But the acting is pretty good with Saoirse Ronan and George MacKay in particular. Even if it's all fiction, somewhere in this world this is already happening and even if I'm positive enough, this could happen here too one day. Let's hope it's all fiction...
