Irish judge James O'Brien is known as the 'hanging judge'. Even on his deathbed, he can't stop meddling in the affairs of his daughter Connaught 'Conn' O'Brien. James insists that she marry wealthy misfit John Darcy. Connaught, however, despises Darcy. She prefers the poor but decent Dermot McDermot. Meanwhile, Irish emigrant Denis Hogan returns. Because of the family honor, he wants to take revenge on the showy Darcy.
