Boring affair about an honest horse dealer who gets caught up in hatred and revenge after the death of his wife . Very slow, where images should say more than dialogue, but often degenerated into maniacal detail. Some scenes were still very botched, such as the murder of Kohlhaas and his cronies that was very poorly portrayed. Mikkelsen is disappointed. I would have liked to see it all a bit more adventurous and less polished; Kohlhaas is presented here as a kind of Robin Hood, but in the literature he seems to have been a medieval "terrorist".

Slow, austere medieval revenge film, strongly reinforced by the stoic head of Mads Mikkelsen. The first hour is doable; after that the stretch is clearly gone and the film creeps to a lackluster finale. Beautifully shot and cleverly edited, with a separate timeline, but this just lacks that bit of punch and emotion to make it truly memorable. But yes, because of that stoic head you keep looking.

Very mediocre film from the Middle Ages that functions as a kind of revenge story when a horse trader feels wrongfully treated. Pretty poor and superficially developed. Little depth in the characters and story.

Not that Mikkelsen acts great, but his character head does fit in this kind of production, just like in Valhalla rising, a more or less similar film. I didn't find the film really atmospheric because there is little historical awareness. The film has succeeded in coming across as bleak and raw with the wild landscape and howling wind that blew around your ears.
