Office clerk Lambert T. Hunkins gets a $10 raise and his friend Violet Comey and her mother know he has some money saved too. Both think it's time for Lambert and Violet to get married. However, Lambert is secretly in love with Iris Mabby, Senator Mabby's daughter. He collects clippings of all the photos of her that appear in the newspapers. Meanwhile, Violet and her mother continue to prepare Lambert for an engagement to Violet and take him to a furniture auction. Instead, Lambert buys a statue of Iris. Iris' father wants this statue back, but Lambert refuses.
