"I'm Ziggy Brennan....there's a girl like me in every town!"
Ziggy Brennan, 14, buys a gardenia for her mother Natalie on Mother's Day. When she enters their apartment, she finds her mother drinking with a strange man. Natalie introduces Ziggy to the man as her sister. Later, Nathalie tells Ziggy that once she knows all the 'tricks', she will never have to work for her money. As a result, Ziggy steals a precious pin from a fellow student and she is subsequently expelled from school. About five years later she meets Denny Reagan and he draws her further into the criminal environment.
